Why Consider a Refurbished CT Scanner for a Hospital or Imaging Center

Everyone is concerned about their health and the health of loved ones. A big part of maintaining or improving an individual's health is diagnostic medicine and getting accurate test results.

What is CT Technology?

A great diagnostic tool is the CT (computed tomography) scanner. This diagnostic tool provides detailed information about the health of internal organs, soft tissue, bones and blood vessels. The test is quick and painless and can provide greater detail than an X-ray about a potential health issue of a patient to the doctor, so a proper plan of attack can be developed.

On occasion, the doctor requesting the CT may want the patient to have contrast material (iodine dye) injected or ingested as a way to see greater detail. The CT may be taken before and after the contrast material is injected to see changes or capture additional information.

While having a diagnostic test is often a point of concern for a patient, CT scans are quick and painless. If a patient has any questions or concerns, they should be discussed with the doctor prior to having the test performed. It is important the patient feel comfortable with the test, understand why it is being completed and what the test results could show.

Using a Refurbished CT Scanner

It should be no surprise that CT scanners are quite costly. Therefore, some imaging centers and hospitals may consider purchasing a refurbished CT scanner , as either their main CT unit or as a backup unit so the test can always be completed, in case one unit is down for repair.

Many may have concerns that having a test done in a refurbished CT scanner may not be safe or provide the best information or test results. This, however, couldn't be further from the truth. A refurbished CT scanner is required to meet the same standards as a CT scanner that is purchased as new. Often, the company that provides the refurbished CT scanner provides maintenance and testing of the unit to ensure everything is working properly.

Both imaging centers and hospitals want to ensure that the highest level of care and diagnostics are provided to their patients. Therefore, patients should not be concerned if an imaging center or hospital has decided to utilize a refurbished CT scanner for diagnostic testing purposes.
