As the economy becomes tighter and tighter, companies need to be more creative to stay afloat, and hopefully, thrive. As a result, more and more companies are looking at used and refurbished equipment instead of buying new as a way to save funds while still acquiring much needed equipment for their business.
Just like the used car market has changed, so has the used equipment market. Used cars are now known as "pre-owned" and come with extensive upfront checks, accident history reports and quality warranties for the buyer. This creates a "win-win" for both business and consumer. The business makes a solid sale and gains a new customer and the consumer gets a quality vehicle at a price within their budget.
The same holds true with used CT equipment. More than simply "used," this specialty type of medical imaging equipment is not simply disassembled at one hospital or imaging center, moved and reassembled somewhere else. Moving used CT equipment is a process that requires much care.
Expert technicians first perform key system checks prior to powering a CT unit down, packing it with the upmost care for transport back to their facility. Once the used CT equipment arrives at their facility, the equipment undergoes further testing and checks as well as receiving any needed hardware or software upgrades. Once the used CT equipment is deemed ready for use and is purchased, it is again powered down, carefully disassembled and packaged for transport. Those same technicians then reassemble and complete the installation of the used CT equipment at the new facility. Again, extensive testing is completed before it is deemed fit for use. This newly installed used CT equipment often provides warranties and service maintenance to make sure the equipment runs at its optimum level.
Just like the car analogy mentioned earlier, this is another "win-win" for all parities involved. The hospital or imaging center has the opportunity to purchase a quality piece of used CT equipment and the original hospital or imaging center is able to gain some much-needed funds for their budget. Most importantly, the imaging center or hospital that has purchased the used CT equipment will be able to provide quality imaging support for their patients, which will help maintain the patient's health or help both patient and doctor develop a plan of attack if a health issue is discovered.
