A Refurbished CT Scanner: The Process

Imaging equipment is an important part in the medical diagnosis process as well as providing ongoing medical care. Reality is, imaging equipment can be quite costly and as imaging centers potentially close or change their focus, they will need to find the best way to dispose of or sell their equipment. This is where refurbished equipment comes into play.

Refurbished CT Scanner

Patients may be concerned about having imaging tests done on a refurbished CT scanner, but there is truly no need for concern. Prior to installation and use, a refurbished CT scanner goes through an intense series of testing and maintenance before it is ever put into use in an imaging center or hospital.

Not every CT scanner will be refurbished. If a piece of equipment is damaged or has other issues, it may be not selected to become a refurbished CT scanner to wind up re-deployed to another imaging center or hospital. Before a CT scanner is removed, highly experienced technicians perform final testing on the unit before power is removed and the unit is disassembled for transport. Once testing is complete, all components are unbolted from the floor and pad wrapped to ensure extra care during transport. Specialized transport equipment is used to make sure none of the equipment is put at risk.

Once everything is back to the location that will refurbish the unit. All components are cleaned and sterilized and any cosmetic repairs that are needed are fixed. The entire unit is reset and powered up and test again to ensure nothing has changed and all necessary upgrades have been completed. If anything is in need of repair or replaced, the issue is resolved.

Once the unit is properly refurbished, the unit is broken down again and safely wrapped for transport to its new location. The refurbished CT scanner is properly re-installed and tested prior to going completely operational for use at the new imaging center or hospital.

No Need for Concern

Ultimately, there is truly no need for concern when going for an imaging test that may be done in a refurbished CT scanner. By imaging centers and hospitals purchasing a refurbished CT scanner, they will more than likely be able to provide additional care to their patients they may not have been able to otherwise, therefore, helping their patients manage their health and develop a plan of attack if an issue is discovered.
