Used MRIs for Detecting Alzheimer's Disease

Used MRIs are a type of imaging equipment that conducts noninvasive testing on patients. From the results of the tests doctors and physicians can determine a diagnosis and decide on the best possible treatment for the patient. Used MRIs basically takes images of different areas of the patient's body and internal tissue and organs without using radiation. A used MRI a just one method of getting images of a patient's body while CT scanners and x-ray machines are others. The use of used MRIs for detecting Alzheimer's disease, other methods for detecting the disease, and the future of used MRI for detecting Alzheimer's disease will be discussed here.

How Can Used MRIs Detect Alzheimer's Disease?

The question of whether or not a person has Alzheimer's disease usually requires a test from a used MRI. Right now doctors and physicians rely on used MRIs because this type of equipment can help determine if a patient has Alzheimer's disease by eliminating a brain tumor or a blood clot as reasons for cognitive impairment. A test by a used MRI also helps the doctor or physician see the changes in the brain that are often linked to Alzheimer's disease.

Are There Other Methods for Detecting Alzheimer's Disease Outside of Used MRIs?

Used MRIs for detecting Alzheimer's disease are not the only way for evaluating it in patients. Learning about the patient's history is important for diagnosing a patient with Alzheimer's disease. A physical exam on the patient, which includes a neurological test, helps the doctor or physician with making the correct diagnosis. In addition to a used MRI test, the patient can have a CT scan and a chest x-ray. Some of the changes that are seen in the later stages of the disease can show up through the CT scan. A chest x-ray is similar to the test of a used MRI because both are used to eliminate and rule out other disorders that may be associated with the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Other laboratory tests such as a blood or urine test help to identify a specific gene that has been linked to Alzheimer's disease. Other tests such as EEGs, ECGs, and neuropsychological testing can be used by the doctor or physician for detecting Alzheimer's disease in a patient or ruling out other possible diseases.

The Future of used MRIs for the Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease

Used MRIs for the detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease are becoming more relied upon by doctors and physicians. There is hope that used MRIs can find patients who are at high risk for the disease and then get treatment more quickly to help slow down or completely stop the advancement of Alzheimer's disease.

While a used MRI can be used to detecting Alzheimer's disease, it is not the only test that doctors and physicians rely on for making their diagnosis. Other physical and mental evaluations need to be conducted on patients in order to make the correct diagnosis, especially for a disease such as Alzheimer's that can only fully be diagnosed after death.
