Regardless of whether a fixed MRI unit or a mobile MRI unit is in use, many patients who suffer from claustrophobia may be truly afraid to complete this type of test. There are a number of ways, however, to put a patient more at ease and more willing to complete the test. One way to put patients more at ease is through the use of an open mobile MRI unit.
At first, patients may be concerned that they will feel even more claustrophobic upon finding out they will have their test done in a mobile MRI unit as opposed to a fixed MRI unit. They will be pleasantly surprised, however, once they step inside and realize it is not as tight as they may have expected.
It is also worth mentioning that just as fixed MRI units have "open MRI" options, so do mobile MRI units. An open mobile MRI will provide the same high-level and quality images for medical review as a closed MRI or a fixed MRI. Patients that are claustrophobic, obese, those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and children are often more comfortable in an open mobile MRI unit. Open MRI units are also quieter than traditional MRI units. This type of testing unit is often more comfortable for many patients due to the open sides of the unit, as opposed to the tube-shaped openings of the traditional "closed" MRI units. Open MRI systems are rapidly becoming a preferred choice for both patients as well as those in the medical profession.
When a patient needs to have a medical test of any type conducted, they are often anxious regarding their potential medical issue. When a patient is claustrophobic, this sense of anxiousness is often increased. When an open-style mobile MRI is available for use, they will feel more at ease and will be much more willing to comply with the test being conducted.
