No one likes to have a medical test done. From blood tests to advanced diagnostic imaging, patients want to be as comfortable as possible during their medical test. This is especially true with mobile MRI.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a popular imaging test in the patient diagnostic process. Issues affecting the spine, brain, joints, heart and blood vessels can be reviewed utilizing this test. An MRI uses computer software to provide cross-sectioned images of the body that can identify medical issues such as tumors, cancers, vascular disease and lumbar disc herination, to name a few. Having an MRI is pain free, non-invasive and radiation-free. A combination of magnetic and radio waves are used during the scanning process. The MRI has been in wide use since the 1980's as an important part of diagnostic medicine.
For some, an MRI is already an uncomfortable test. The patient tube can be quite narrow, making claustrophobic patients especially uncomfortable. There have been many advancements, however, that work to make patients more comfortable when having this test done, whether it is in a fixed MRI location or a mobile MRI.
Those who work to develop testing advancements have taken patient comfort into consideration as imaging becomes more and more complex. For example, a recent technology known as an "open MRI" has eliminated the tube the patient enters for the test altogether. This can be much more comfortable for many patients, especially those who are claustrophobic, overweight or young children who would like a parent with them during the test. Air conditioning during the test also helps make a patient comfortable during a fixed or mobile MRI scan and now patients can even select music to listen to that is piped into the system during the test.
Whether a fixed or mobile MRI is used, those who conduct the test also work hard to put the patient's mind at ease. While many are often anxious that they may have a potential health issue, both people and technology work together to make patients as comfortable as possible.
